Won the B Division tournament with an 83. I’d been playing well for a few months and the mental side of competition turned out to be less of a problem than I expected.
I prepared for it to feel different under pressure: different tempo, tighter muscles, second-guessing club selection. Some of that was there. But the game plan was simple: play my normal round, let the score happen.
The fact that I’d already broken 80 a few weeks earlier helped. I knew the game was there. I just needed to not add extra complications.
What held up under pressure:
- Short game with the 56°, the round-saver
- Putting feel: trusted the read instead of overthinking line
- Wind management: same swing, one more club, no heroics
What I learned: Pressure exposes your miss. Mine was the occasional loose approach from the second shot on par 4s, head moving early, face slightly open. It cost me a few shots but not the tournament. Next step is tightening that pattern so it doesn’t show up when it matters.
